Poetic justice — 13 get AIDS after sexually abusing a helpless widow
Last night my wife showed me a scan of a newspaper clipping on her Twitter timeline. I’m putting the clipping below.
To those who cannot read Hindi, I’m going to explain what happened.
A young widow in Gorakhpur, U.P., wanted to get a ration card and a widow-pension card for herself.
Three years ago her husband had died of “unknown” causes. When her own relatives refused to help her, she sought the help that the government provides to women in such situations. From the employment agent to the village head to the secretary (whoever he is) to 9 other government officials, all sexually exploited the woman, promising her to help one way or the other.
Then the woman got sick.
First, the village head took her to one of the village quacks but when she didn’t get better, he took her to a proper hospital where they checked her blood. The pathology report revealed that she was HIV positive.
Scared out of his wits, the village head got her examined in a bigger hospital, with the same results. The news quickly spread across the village and all the 13 men who had sexually abused the woman got themselves checked.
Now all the men have AIDS. The woman’s husband had died of AIDS and he had also infected her. Since she didn’t fall sick immediately, and since nobody knew what exactly had happened to the husband, she never suspected that she was carrying the AIDS virus.
