Just came across your response. I think you haven’t understood the gist of the article, or you are simply picking what’s convenient to your way of thinking. Nowhere I have mentioned that I have a problem with people making fun of religion (just as people should be able to make fun of people who want to make fun of religion). The problem is with the systematic targeting. In these movies, you will not find characters and narratives lampooning gods and concepts of other religions like Islam or Christianity. There is always a Rahim Chacha either getting all the sympathy or delivering wisdom to other clueless characters. If one wants to be liberal, one should be liberal with all the religions, not towards the softest target.

If people made fun of the peaceful prophet and Jesus with similar elan, there wouldn’t be any problem.

In India there is a saying, “Jaan kar anjaan banna”. Assuming you have enough intelligence, deep within you know that you are skirting the real issue: since it is easy to bully one single religion and lampooning other religions can be catastrophic (Charlie Hebdo or Van Gogh), only Hinduism is targeted. If you are truly liberal and inclusive, let every religion, let every God, let every prophet be fair game.
